Two Integrated Education and Training Models
December 6, 2017 @ 1:15 pm PST
Research shows the Integrated Education and Training is an effecting teaching model for students with basic skills needs who are on a specific career path. In this webinar, you will hear about two current models of IET: co-teaching and alternating teaching. Carolyn McGavock and Frank Vasquez from San Diego Community College District Continuing Education will explain how Carolyn and Frank co-teach an introductory Automotive Technician training class in which Carolyn integrates targeted vocabulary, basic math, study skills and job seeking skills. They will share lessons learned about the challenges and positive outcomes of co-teaching. Jennifer Bedon from the Los Angeles USD Division of Adult and Career Education will present two examples of the alternating teacher model. The first is a photovoltaic job training class which includes math support and a designated math class the students take simultaneously. The second is a model that supports ESL students to meet their goal of becoming a CNA through an accelerated pathway.
