Questioning Strategies that Lead to Deeper Learning in ESL, Part 1: A Systematic Process for Formulating Questions
May 14 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm PDT
ESL Teachers use questions to check students’ understanding, but questions that go beyond simple comprehension help students apply newly learned content in ways that will lead to deeper learning. In this first online workshop, participants will describe how to use research-based principles for effective questioning strategies in teaching, based on the revision of Bloom’s Taxonomy of the Cognitive Domain and Webb’s Depth of Knowledge (DOK) model. Participants will be able to select and ask questions that elicit higher-order thinking, and follow a systematic process for formulating questions. This is the first of two interactive online workshops. Part 2 is scheduled for Fri., May 28. It is strongly recommended that participants have completed Part 1 before taking Part 2. Separate registration is required for each workshop.
Primary intended audience: California adult literacy instructors for ESL
Facilitator: Kristi Reyes, CALPRO Facilitator and Non-Credit ESL Instructor, MiraCosta College
