MAY 2020: Best Practices for High-Quality Online Instruction
Many adult education teachers believe that they are “teaching online” by having students use a website or a commercial software program. Enrollments in these types of distance learning, hybrid, or online classes shows low retention because the instruction is very passive and students are not engaging with either the instructor or classmates. High-quality online teaching includes active learning, interaction, participation, and collaboration. The teacher provides timely and regular feedback. Teachers use tools within and external to a course management system for instruction, student practice, and assessment that are well-suited to various tasks within the discipline / subject. This tech talk will provide an opportunity to discuss standards.
This month’s speaker: Kristi Reyes, OTAN Subject Matter Expert, Mira Costa Community College
We look forward to seeing you at this OTAN Tech Talk
The OTAN Tech Talks are open forum where any adult educator or staff can present, unlike the OTAN Webinars which are hosted and facilitated by certified OTAN Trainers and Subject Matter Experts. Due to the “open forum” model of the OTTs, certificates of attendance will NOT be awarded to attendees.
