The registration information for the CASAS Remote Testing Webinars has been posted early on the OTAN Staff Development site. The webinars have been added to our website calendar, and are scheduled for April 30 and May 4. Registration links are functioning and are also also posted on the calendar. You are encouraged to register early in case you have a preference of webinar start time.
Earlier today, JoDee forwarded correspondence from Carolyn Zachary of the AEO regarding California taking steps to establish remote testing for adult education students. OTAN/CASAS will be hosting webinars covering remote testing for COAAPS, Citizenship and Pre- and Post-testing. Once the Zoom link information is posted, the various Webinar information will be posted on the calendar.
You will have two opportunities to participate in each set of webinars – Important-you need only attend one of each set of webinars!!! COAAPs and Citizenship remote testing will be covered at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on April 30; and pre- and post-testing will be covered at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on May 4.

In case you were unable to listen in to the CASAS Remote Testing Update Webinar, CASAS has posted the slides from the presentation. One important piece of information that was shared is that states may allow local agencies to exempt distance learning students from pre- and post-testing if the local program is unable to provide testing due to COVID-19. I am sure there will be more direction coming from the AEO as soon as they determine a response that complies with the guidelines that are spelled out within the slides. OTAN has announced additional professional development opportunities, including workshops on TOPS Enterprise (TE). Several TE webinars on April 23 and 24. These include TE Basics, as well as information on DIR and using TE Data to improve your instructional programs. All PD events are posted on the calendar and include a link to the webinar registration page.
Yesterday morning, Governor Newsom announced the state Task Force on Business and Jobs Recovery to address the “pandemic-induced recession” California is experiencing. Co-chairing this task force is Tom Steyer and Newsom’s Chief of Staff Ann O’Leary. All four living former California Governors – Jerry Brown, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gray Davis and Pete Wilson, will also serve as members of the task force.
